Bio
Anzu is a divine beast that serves as Enlil‘s loyal guardian in his temple. He protects Enlil as he does his duties as the supreme god. A powerful beast that can breathe out both fire and water, Anzu has the appearance of a horned lion with eagle talons and wings. He’s usually seen with a sly grin, as he’s often plotting something nasty in his mind.
Despite being a servant, Anzu has an ambitious nature. Once he has his eyes set on something, he’s willing to do whatever it takes to get it. He’d even betray his own master and resort to unsavory ways. One such occasion was when he steals Enlil’s Tablet of Destinies, turning against the gods for his own selfish intentions.
In ‘NINURTA’, Anzu steals the Tablet of Destinies with the aim of overthrowing Enlil and becoming the supreme god himself. Using the Tablet’s powers, it’s easy for him to defeat even mighty warrior gods such as Adad, Shara and Girra. Now free to do whatever he wants with no one to stop him, Anzu proceeds to misuse the Tablet. He brainwashes all the humans into worshipping him and sets his sight on ruling the world.

- Anzu is based on the ancient Mesopotamian beast Anzu.
- A possible meaning for Anzu’s name is ‘heavenly eagle’. Anzu’s other names include Zu and Imdugud, meaning ‘heavy wind’.
- In the ‘Myth of Anzu’, Ninurta pursues Anzu in order to retrieve the stolen Tablet of Destinies. However, Anzu is able to defend himself by using the Tablet to change Ninurta’s arrows back into its raw materials, cancelling the attack. Calling upon the Winds to rip off Anzu’s wings, Ninurta is eventually able to slay Anzu and retrieve the Tablet.
