NINURTA Chapter 4
English Summary
Finding out the location of the Seven Winds from the priest in the City of Wind, Ninurta continued his journey.
As the god of farming and hunting, he had no problem supplying himself and Sharur with their daily needs and food by using his powers. Bringing a bunch of date fruits with him as snacks, Ninurta made his way towards the Wind Highlands.
Upon arrival at the Wind Highlands, Ninurta was met by a giant tornado that engulfed the area. He tried to go through it, but with the winds being so powerful, it was no easy feat. Ninurta called out to the Winds, telling them that he was their master Enlil’s son, and that he had come to request their help.
Even so, no one answered him. Ninurta decided to use his powers and force his way through the gusts. Turning the date fruits into trees he could grab onto, he managed to reach the top of the Highlands. Ninurta eventually arrived at the Seven Winds’ temple with a lot of effort.
He found the Seven Winds there and requested their help. But the Winds told him that they’d only listen to Enlil’s orders. If Ninurta wanted their help, he must first prove his worth.
In the middle of Ninurta’s argument with the Winds, Gula arrived. She told Ninurta that she had come to take him back, not wanting him to put himself in danger. The winds laughed evilly, saying that they thought up a test for Ninurta.
The Winds then told Ninurta to kill Gula if he wanted their help. If he was going to save the world, then just one sacrifice shouldn’t mean much. Faced with a tough decision, Ninurta was at a loss.
