【 ドラブラ 】 Club Travel Log – Part 1

♥ Share:

Report originally written in October 2020. After my club Nidhogg disbanded, I decided to go and visit various other clubs to see how other guilds are run and maybe learn a thing or two from them. It’d certainly help me improve as a guildmaster and maybe in real life, too!

Why I Went for this Trip

Being ultra shy, I’ve never been in a guild before CDB. But as fate would have it, I ended up being the guildmaster of Nidhogg without any prior knowledge of what a guild is and how to run it, so you can see the chaos!

I managed to learn from those around me and prevented Nidhogg from failing, but I can’t deny that I felt as though I was driving blind. I also ran into a lot of difficulties as I was managing the club. For example, how to more efficiently share information, and how to divide tasks between members. (Other club presidents seemed to be doing them so effortlessly!) So I wanted to see how things were done in other clubs so I can improve.

I visited a total of 11 clubs over 4 months in CDB’s Wind of Freedom server from September to December 2020. (One club per week. I visited a different club after every Defend Boss event on Saturday night.) The club names are listed below. I’ll break the report up into 3 parts since it’s long!

  • Part 1: Gaikai Yado, Tsukiyo no Kouchakai, Jukai no Junin, Kuroneko Takkyubin
  • Part 2: AN37th, Souten no Hikari, STAGE5, Tonari no Kuni
  • Part 3: VVIP, Maple and Kusou Toshokan.

In these travel logs, I’ll write about the interesting things that happened to me and what I learned during my trip!

Gaikai Yado (26 Sept – 3 Oct)

I wanted to thank Gaikai Yado (外界宿) and its president Momoten-san for helping out with Nidhoggg’s management after our disbandment, so the first club I went to was Gaikai Yado! Unlike our middle-sized Nidhogg, Gaikai was a huge club which was also strong in club battles, so I experienced a lot of new things and learned a lot!

  • Thanks for saying ‘welcome back!’ when I returned, Momoten-san!
  • My first time talking in Discord while playing a game. Everyone was chatting in a lively manner!
  • The club base fountain party system* was there.
  • Gaikai was made up of both serious players and people playing at their own pace, so it was easy for newcomers to make friends.
  • Members invited and helped each other out during events by writing useful info in the club chat.
  • The club president Momoten-san was friendly and easy to talk to.
  • In Gaikai, they changed the Moments Editor everyday and posted about anything, so it was pretty entertaining! (I got to do it once, too!)
  • Before guild battles, it was nice that Momoten-san mentioned to tell him if you have someone you want to fight with or a location you want to be put in.
Also, even if my player score wasn’t that great, Momoten-san put me in the attacking team so I can have fun. Thank you~!

*Members who couldn’t attend events can leave their avatars at the club base fountain. Party leaders in the club will bring the avatars to the events for them. This system was first created by Club VVIP and other clubs soon adopted it.

Tsukiyo no Kouchakai (4 Oct – 10 Oct)

The second club I went to was Tsukiyo no Kouchakai (月夜の紅茶会). Thanks for Nidhogg’s farewell party and for always being so supportive while we were active! Like Gaikai, Tsukiyo was also a huge club. Members were all really playful and friendly!

  • The Club Moments was used really well! They uploaded the club rules and explanations there every Monday, so new members can see them easily.
  • Members clustering together while waiting for events to start was really cute!
  • Everyone was cheerful, so the voice chat was lively and fun.
  • People talked with you if you appeared in the club chat.
  • They did their best in the club battles!
  • They did collab photoshoots and events with other clubs quite regularly.
  • The deputy and others helped the president with the club announcements. Nice support!

Jukai no Junin (11 Oct – 17 Oct)

The third club I went to was Jukai no Junin (樹海の住人). Mogyu-san from our club president alliance had stopped playing the game, but I wanted to see how her club was doing, so here goes! (I wanted to visit Pokk-san’s Nekocharu Hinata too, but it’s too bad they had disbanded ;-; Tapi-san’s Astrave merged with Nekocharu a little before that.)

  • Jukai was a middle-sized club, so it was comfortable with not too many people.
  • The club president Naki-san was easy to talk to.
  • They didn’t really have a set system in the club, so you can play without feeling any pressure.
  • They uploaded the club schedule and world boss schedule in the Club Moments, so it’s easy to check.
  • When there were world boss or events, they posted the coordinates in the club chat to tell the other members.

*The second pic above was the club president Naki-san and Jorno-san cosplaying Khorkina and Amton. I love the orphanage kids, so I was so happy!! Thank you~ ;u;

Kuroneko Takkyubin (18 Oct – 24 Oct)

The fourth club I visited was Kuroneko Takkyubin (黒猫宅急便), since I’ve heard nice things about them and they seemed to be full of creators. Kuroneko was a huge club, but everyone was really friendly. Out of all the clubs I’ve seen so far, Kuroneko probably had the best club system in place, so I was glad I visited and saw it in action. Their way of running a club was really something to aim for!

  • The deputy Shiki-san talked to new members and supported them, so you don’t get lost.
  • They wrote the event schedules, club rules, game tips, and what to do if you run into trouble in the club moments. They were also written in proper posters with colours, so they were easy to read.
  • The club base fountain party system was there.
  • At the end of every Sunday, members thanked each other for the fun week and for playing together. So sweet!!
  • The president and deputy made an in-game hide and seek event with a small prize money (gift card) for the members every once in awhile.
  • They set aside some time in their club schedule to hear what their members had to say about the club twice a week. You can tell the officers if you wanted any improvements in the club.
  • If the club’s officers were getting busy, they tell it to their members and ask for help with managing the club.
  • They also had their own Twitter account and monthly club magazine called the ‘Zasshi Kurabu BCC’ (雑誌倶楽部BCC / Magazine Club Black Cat Courier) about their members and screenshot tips.

They also used their Discord channel really well, so I’ll write about it a bit:

  • The attendance for the club battles was done in Discord and the club moments.
  • They had a channel where you can upload your drawings, screenshots and videos. People with the same hobbies can have fun!
  • There was also a channel used to ask questions or write what you want the club to do for you.
  • The entry of new members were announced in Discord.
