【 ドラブラ 】 My Experiences as a Club President (Part 1)

Notes:

CDB was the first time I became a club president (guildmaster in CDB’d terms), or been in a guild at all, actually! Named ‘Nidhogg’, the club (guild) was half created by accident (I misunderstood that if your club ‘maintenance fee’ turns to zero, the club will vanish, so I gathered people in panic… x.x). But everything turned out well, I can say that I’ve made a well-loved club, and I was glad that it all happened!

Being a shy introvert, I’d never have created a guild or put myself in a leader position otherwise. A lot of things happened, so I wrote a comic about my experiences every month while the club was active between April to August 2020. Part 1 was written in early June detailing the happenings in April and May. Enjoy!

(This was written in Japanese because I originally posted it in CDB’s Japanese Twitter community. Read from right to left. English summary below.)

My Experiences as a Club President (Part 1)

Translation:

This is a story from the beginning of May 2020, before I, the president of club Nidhogg, came to Twitter. My name’s Rhyme. I’m generally shy, has never been a leader before, and has lack of experience in MMOs. So naturally, I suck as a club president!

3 weeks after the club’s creation, most members had stopped playing the game and we didn’t have any new members, so the club was mostly dead! No one was talking to each other and the club events barely had any participants. I felt particularly sorry for my club deputy Baiza-san, because he was a good player but he had to get stuck with me. Feeling guilty, I told him that he can leave if the club’s boring.

It wasn’t like things would work out with me as the president, anyway. So I thought of seeing Baiza-san off and closing the club when the last member turned inactive. But despite my expectations, Baiza-san chose to stay!! I was so touched that instead of giving up, I wanted to make a last ditch attempt and do everything I can to save the club. No more running away from things I’m not good at!

I won’t let Nidhogg die! For Baiza san who didn’t abandon me, and to overcome my own weaknesses!

After that I went to Twitter and set up a CDB Twitter account to recruit members. Luckily, Haku-san, who belonged to a much bigger club in another server, was interested and joined with her sub-account. I got to ask how things were done and improve Nidhogg’s system with a lot of trial and error.

After that, other people seeing the recruitment poster I put out on Twitter joined in. Kasumi-san, Keito-kun, Nelu-san, Rai-san, Moe-tan and Remumiku-san were all cheering for me. (Thank you so much…!)

With everyone’s help the club was able to regain its life little by little. The club chat and club events slowly had more and more participants. We even had fun photoshoots together! I was so touched and happy!

In the meantime, overcoming my shyness, I was also able to gain quite a lot of confidence and initiative as a leader. As a president, you really need to talk and reach out to people a lot! I also learned how to make recruitment posters. It was amazing since everything were skills that would be really useful in real life. I wanted to go as far as I can and see how much I can raise my club.

Conclusion, I felt like being a club president was a really tasking job if you want to make a proper, functioning club. It was particularly difficult for me as I had no prior experience as a leader. (And because I’ve never been in a guild before, for that matter.) But because of this activity, I was able to develop as a person and meet so many awesome people, so I was greatly thankful!

Although I’m still a beginner, thank you so much for supporting me and joining me on my journey of self-improvement, everyone! I’ll continue doing my best while having fun with you all!
