NINURTA Chapter 6

English Summary

After Ninurta successfully passed the Seven Winds’ test, the Seven Winds and Gula decided to aid him on his journey. Powerful allies by his side, Ninurta continued his quest to find and defeat Anzu.

As they journeyed, Ninurta got curious. His mother Ninmah told him that the Winds were his father’s old friends, so he wondered if they can tell him a little about Enlil. Ninurta greatly respected and idolized him, so he felt upset that Enlil seemed to think that he was never good enough. He feared that Enlil disliked him.

The Winds assured Ninurta that it was on the contrary—Enlil believed in his potential greatly. As his son and heir, Enlil expected a great deal out of Ninurta. He believed that his son would get there someday, so he always pushed him to become stronger in his own ways.

Assured that his father actually loved him, Ninurta felt more alive than ever. He looked forward to defeating Anzu and reporting it to Enlil proudly.

Eventually, Ninurta arrived at Anzu’s grand temple. He was disgusted that Anzu abused something as holy as the Tablet of Destinies for his personal gain and selfish interests. Looking around, he found it strange that such a great temple was unusually quiet. No one was in sight. Even the guards weren’t there at the gates.

Thinking that it was fishy, Ninurta told Gula and the others to wait outside while he investigated the situation.

Flying to the middle of the great temple, Ninurta made a shocking discovery.

Anzu had amassed a giant army of countless brainwashed humans using the Tablet of Destinies. He stood proudly on a pedestal as he announced his orders.

Having most of the world in his grasp using the Tablet’s powers, Anzu wanted the humans was to storm the abode of the gods and destroy Enlil’s barrier. Without the supreme god’s protection, Anzu would finally be able to brainwash even the gods. He’d then become the new supreme god, ruler of all.

Shocked beyond words, Ninurta accidentally alerted Anzu and his army of his presence. Anzu was surprised, but saw Ninurta as no threat as he wasn’t a powerful god. He decided to take down Ninurta with his men.

Being a warrior god, fighting the humans wasn’t a great problem for Ninurta. But he knew that these were just innocent people being controlled by Anzu, and it ate away at his conscience. He was even more shocked that the humans weren’t trained soldiers, but normal civilians. There were even children among them, and he couldn’t lift a finger against them.

Anzu laughed and taunted Ninurta, asking him whether the gods would just wipe out these innocent humans if they attacked. Ninurta was angry and frustrated that he couldn’t fight Anzu with the humans getting in his way.

He slowly got cornered, but luckily, Gula and the Seven Winds came to his rescue. They had come to check on Ninurta because he hadn’t returned, and were greatly surprised by the situation. The group got ready to face off against Anzu.
