NINURTA Chapter 10
English Summary
Ninurta succeeded in defeating Anzu’s men without hurting them thanks to his new strategy and his friends’ help. Obstacles out of the way, Ninurta fought Anzu in their final battle.
A well-trained warrior god, Ninurta was a good fighter. But Anzu used the Tablet of Destinies’ destructive magic and his own wind spells to prevent Ninurta from even getting close to him. Anzu was after all, the holy beast chosen by the supreme god Enlil himself as his guardian, so he proved to be a strong and difficult opponent.
Meanwhile, the gods fighting against Anzu’s army were starting to reach their limit, feeling exhausted as they were greatly outnumbered. Enki was among them, commanding them in the front lines and telling everyone not to give up.
The situation looked as though Anzu was winning, but Ninurta was determined not to lose. Cooperating with the Seven Winds, Ninurta attacked Anzu again. He first knocked the Tablet out of Anzu’s hands, successfully disarming him.
Ninurta then commanded the sea wind and the electrical wind to zap Anzu with a strong current of electricity. Unable to defend himself, Anzu was knocked down to the ground, greatly weakened. Ninurta stood over him victoriously.
Anzu defeated and the Tablet of Destinies safely out of his reach, Anzu’s brainwashed human army regained their consciousness, stopping their attacks.
A messenger soon arrived with the news that Ninurta had successfully defeated Anzu. Anzu’s tyranny had passed and the world was safe now. The gods cheered and praised Ninurta as their hero with great joy. Seeing that everything had ended well from his temple, Enlil sighed in relief.
Glad that everything was over, Ninurta got ready to return to the city of the gods. Then he heard Anzu crying, saying that all he actually wanted was to be acknowledged and loved by those around him. Ninurta stopped in his tracks, thinking that Anzu’s wish was very much like his own.
Remembering how evil and power-hungry Anzu was, Ninurta tried not to think about it, focussing on his duty of returning the Tablet of Destiny instead. But the moment he laid his hand on the Tablet, he heard a strange voice.
A mirage of himself in majestic regal clothing appeared, saying sweet words. It told him how returning the Tablet for such a small reward would be a mistake—Ninurta already had everything he could wish for here in his hands.
