Zeraora Fanfic – The Lone King (Collab with ZDX36)
【 Day 5: Dresses 】
The fifth day. Zephyr sat at the breakfast table alone as Froslass served him. Since he was starting to feel comfortable in the castle, he switched over to wearing the pink sweater he got instead of his coat today. It was more comfortable, and it’d be a waste not to wear it since Z gave it to him.
Otherwise, Z himself was late for breakfast, but no one knew where he was. After yesterday’s events, Zephyr was a little worried. Froslass said that the king might still be in his chambers, so the Zeraora offered to give it a look by himself.
Climbing the stairs and walking down long corridors, Zephyr eventually arrived in front of Z’s room. The door hung slightly open. Curious, he took a peek inside, expecting to find Z crying into his pillow or something.
But to his surprise, what he found there was a girl. A white Zeraora dressed in a beautiful, frilly black dress standing in front of a full body mirror!
Who’s that? Trying to get a better look, Zephyr leaned in against the door, only for it to creak loudly.
“Whoa!” he exclaimed in surprise, losing his balance and falling into the room with a crash. The girl in the room turned to look at him, only to reveal that it was actually his missing king, Z.
“WHOA!!” Z yelled, even more surprised than Zephyr was.
“Z-Zephyr?! At least knock first!!” He blushed deeply, panicking like a child who was caught red-handed doing something bad.
“S-SORRY!!” Zephyr apologized quickly.
“What are you doing here?!”
“You didn’t come for breakfast, so I was worried!”
Z heard a servant coming to clean the corridor then, so he hurriedly pulled Zephyr into the room, slamming the door shut. The king glared at the other cat after that.
“Y-You didn’t see any of this! Forget everything you saw!!” Z ordered, still blushing as he waited for Zephyr to laugh at him. But to his surprise, Zephyr didn’t.
“Huh? The dress? I don’t see anything wrong with it,” the yellow Zeraora said, tilting his head curiously and studying Z’s appearance. “I think it looks pretty nice on you. Did you make that yourself, too? The frills and ribbons are so cute!”
Z hesitated, looking away and trying to calm down. “You… You don’t think it’s weird that I’m wearing ladies’ clothes?”
“Huh…” Zephyr shook his head and shrugged. “Not particularly. I’ve always wondered what to think of it myself since we Zeraora are genderless. So technically, we can wear anything without thinking that it’s weird? I don’t wear much clothes myself, but I do think ladies’ clothes are pretty and I understand if it makes you want to wear them.”
“Zephyr… You’re the first one who said that!” Z said, his expression softening. He picked up the hems of his long dress and walked back in front of the mirror, studying his form.
“Remember when you asked about my hobbies before going to the library? This is the one I hid from you. Della always looked so pretty in her dresses, so I wanted to try wearing some too. The others said that it was too cute and unfitting for a king though, so I started hiding it. They might be right to an extent. I need to look powerful out there since I’m Euhitras’ face.”
Zephyr watched Z, understanding that he needed to maintain his reputation and public figure. Kings didn’t have a free life in so many ways.
“A bit sad that we can’t do anything about it,” Zephyr said, “You can continue dressing up for awhile if you want, though. I’ll be here too, so you can share your favourite gowns with someone!”
“Thanks for being so nice, Zephyr.” Z turned to him then, a rather mischievous grin on his face. “But since you’re already here and you’re not opposed to dresses, you might as well join me in dressing up!”
“W-Whoa! Really?” Zephyr blushed shyly.
“Of course. Take your pick! I made all these by myself,” Z said, opening his large wardrobe and showing off his entire collection.
There were various types of clothes and dresses from all ages. Some were simple and plain, and some were colourful and sophisticated. Some were boyish and some were very feminine. There was everything from maid clothes to ballroom gowns to the dresses of queens. Zephyr would be lying if he said that he wasn’t enchanted by the elegant wear.
“I-I don’t know if I’m pretty enough to wear any of these…” Zephyr blushed and looked away. “I don’t deserve them.”
“Oh, come now, Zephyr,” Z said comfortingly, putting a hand on Zephyr’s cheek to look at his face. “You have a pretty face. Be proud of it.”
Zephyr grinned shyly. “Oh, you. You’re handsome too, Your Majesty.”
The two of them played dress up for the day, happily commenting on each other’s looks.
That night, Zephyr was on his way back to his room after dinner, quite satisfied with how things went. A familiar voice made itself heard behind him.
“Well-done, sunflower.”
Zephyr turned to see Mismagius there. “It’s you! Thank you always for your tips, Mismagius! The king’s certainly pleasant once you get to know him.”
The witch giggled elegantly like she usually did. “Your happiness pleases me.”
“I’m… I feel glad that you invited me here now. The castle, the king, all the other Pokémon living here… Euhitras is amazing! Thank you.”
Mismagius shook her head. “That’s okay. Great that things turned out well.”
She drifted towards the window, watching the waves lap at the cliffs under the moonlight outside. “But time, it passes quickly… In two days, will come your time to part.”
“……!” Zephyr’s eyes widened in surprise.
“The king agreed to me leaving at the end of the week?” He asked. Mismagius nodded.
“Yes. You did your job well, so he’d honor his deal with you.”
“I see…” The Zeraora’s expression saddened a little. “Just when I feel like I finally made friends with you guys, too…”
“Euhitras will miss you.”
“I’ll…I’ll miss this place, too…”
Then something came to mind, so Zephyr voiced his thoughts. “Hey, Mismagius, what’s the cause of Euhitras’ downfall? His Majesty’s nice and strong, and the castle looked well-defended, so how did it become like this?”
“……” Mismagius looked at Zephyr for a moment, and then shook her head, “I and all other come to this place only after its ruin. His Majesty’s the only original inhabitant now, and he loathes to part his lips for that topic.”
“Aww…” Zephyr’s shoulders dropped in disappointment. Mismagius chuckled at him.
“But the king, he has grown quite fond of you. Perhaps he’ll tell you in due time. Good luck, sunflower. Goodnight.”
With that, she floated away to return to her own chambers, disappearing into a wall.
