Chapter 9: The Dragon's Right Hand
English Summary
Chu Zihang’s team arrived at the library and began their investigation. A great amount of energy was concentrated in the building and a portal locked by a password in the dragon’s tongue blocked their path. Chu Zihang explained that such puzzles were common during his previous Code missions, as dragons were powerful enough to make seals.
But looking at how ancient and complicated the runes of the seal were, he warned his team members to be careful as this was no ordinary dragon. They kept their guard up and began working on the puzzle.
Meanwhile, Caesar’s team, unaware that Iris was working together with the enemy dragon, was led straight into her trap. Under Iris’ command, a giant horde of monsters attacked the team in the school grounds.
Everyone was surprised and confused that Iris could command the monsters. Iris then took off her sunglasses and showed her dragon eyes, revealing her identity as a dragon’s apostle. She revealed her motivations to everyone’s shock.
Like the Black Swan kids, her entire family’s bloodline was unstable, so she was used to being feared and locked up. After Cassell’s dragon slayers killed her father when he turned into a dragon, their treatment of Iris only got worse. Everyone looked at her like she was a monster. The only one to provide her with comfort was a dragon who visited her and offered to make her an apostle.
Happy that there was someone on her side, Iris agreed. Upon becoming an apostle, Iris’ dragon blood stabilized. She pretended to be a human and swore to destroy Cassell one day.
And then Cassell took in the Black Swan kids, a big group of unstable S-Rank hybrids. Iris saw her chance and began making plans to corner them so they would lose their minds and be consumed by their dragon blood’s power. Iris and the dragon were planning to use them as their weapons once they’ve turned into monsters.
However, the kids had exceeded Iris’ expectations, so she offered to bring them to the dragon to make them apostles, instead. It would be in their best interest as the world would continue mistreating them as long as they have unstable bloodlines.
But Rhyme and the others refused, saying that it was no reason to turn into evil beings that hurt the innocent. Angered, Iris prepared for battle, saying that she’d forcefully turn them into monsters so she could control them.
