Part 2 was written in early July 2020 about what happened in June 2020. I was really touched that Nidhogg managed to rise up from being a half-dead club to a proper, functioning club. Thanks to all our members and everyone who supported us!
(This was written in Japanese because I originally posted it in CDB’s Japanese Twitter community. Read from right to left. English summary below.)
My Experiences as a Club President (Part 2)
Translation:
Wind of Freedom server, Club Nidhogg. With a lot of effort and improvements in the club’s system, we managed to rise from being a half-dead club into a fun and jolly club! (We somehow have a lot of members with female avatars. The president’s harem?!)
My name’s Rhyme, the president of Nidhogg. Being a beginner both as an MMO player and a guildmaster, I continue doing my best despite various difficulties! I’ll talk about the interesting things that happened during these past two months.
Interesting things (Our Club’s Culture):
- I recruited people from Twitter and we now have a lot of artists!
- Haku-san and Nelu-san hugged everyone when they joined in. It was fun, so hugs now turned into our club’s greeting!
- Bobotan and Keito-kun taught us how to invite people for quests, so even people who used to go solo have friends now.
- I suggested taking photos outside the club base, so we now have field trips all over the map on Thursdays!
- Baiza-san’s good with the Code dungeons, so we go there together on Tuesdays.
I like how a club’s culture and ‘personality’ is built by all the members that happened to be in it!
Interesting things (Club Activities):
- Club Nidhogg leveled up to Lv. 2! Thank you, members!
- Solana-san made us our awesome club logo! Since we have a lot of artists, we also have many art trades.
- Everyone talked to each other and graduated from being shy.
- As we recruited from Twitter, people from other servers also joined with their sub-accounts. So we’re now a multi-server lobby!
- We did the first inter-club photoshoot!
- Some people also came to ask me about tips on running a club. I’m really a beginner, so I don’t know if I’ll be helpful, but I’ll do my best!
Interesting things (Outside the Club):
- Everyone on Twitter’s so supportive! A lot of people say that our club looks fun and everyone in it gets along. Thank you for cheering on Nidhogg although we’re a small club! (Members, you can feel proud for creating such a wonderful environment. Love you all!)
- Mogyu-san from Club Jukai no Junin invited me into her Club President group. Also in the group are the club presidents of Gaikai Yado, Tsukiyo no Kouchakai, Astrave and Nekocharu Hinata. (All of them are successful, huge clubs. I was quite overwhelmed at first and wondered if it was even OK for me to be there!) The group was made with the purpose of supporting and learning from each other so we can run our respective clubs better. I’ll do my best to learn and provide some value!
- We also made friends with other clubs from various servers!
Everything looked like it was going so smoothly and beautifully, but…
After 3 months have passed, a lot of users stopped playing the game. As a result, many clubs either died off or merged with other clubs. Since Nidhogg is a small club, I’m constantly plagued by the thought that we’ll go back to being half-dead soon.
A scary thought, but I realized that there’s no use worrying about it. As long as my members are having fun, I’ll continue doing my best for Nidhogg as its president. After all, when the time comes for the club to go, I’ve already gathered a lot of precious memories! Those will certainly stay forever.
(Extra) My development:
- I’m slowly gaining more confidence as a club president.
- I used to try to do everything by myself, so I’m happy that my club members helped out!
- Meeting and talking with various people, I turned more flexible.
- Being a beginner, I used to think that guilds are aggressive to each other. So I’m glad that everyone turned out to be supportive instead!
- There were a lot of Japanese words that I saw for the first time, so I had to improve my vocabulary to communicate.
Looking forward to how much more I’ll grow after this!
