Pokémon Unite fan comic / Zeraora comic. A doodle pile about the days Zephyr first joined the team. I should be working on my other pending projects, but I’m feeling a bit stuck, so I’ll make this to get the creative juices flowing. Hope you enjoy!

Artist's Notes
All my thoughts, imagination and adventures with my dear partner Zeraora. Happy to be able to spill them all out in this series!
I wrote most of my thoughts in the Afterword above. The work turned longer than expected because it changed direction, but I think it was a good chance to look back on my adventures and struggles with Zephyr and my other mons so far. I was reminded of how it was when I was really trying to get better, so writing this brought the spirit back. Will continue doing my best with my cat!
Thank you so much for joining me on my long journey and see you next time!
Trivia
- Everything’s based on my actual adventures and thoughts as I played with my four Pokémon in Unite.
- The Japanese title’s literal translation is actually ‘Zeraora Observation Diary’, but it sounds weird in English, so we have ‘Studying my Zeraora’ instead.
- Page 4: House cats in real life spray vertical surfaces to mark their territory. Tigers spray and leave claw marks on trees.
- Page 5: Unite Battles created to gather Aeos Energy for research is an official setting. Aeos research team providing lodging and food to support Trainers is NOT an official setting.
- Page 6: Cats in real life don’t recognize themselves in the mirror.
- Page 13: The only Pokémon game I played before Unite was Ruby. I saw Zeraora for the first time in Unite, so I had zero knowledge about him and really didn’t know that he was a Mythical Pokémon.
- Page 14: USUM Zeraora info from the official site.
- Page 18: Zephyr having a stronger electricity but lower endurance than other Zeraoras is based on my full attack build (Amp/Claw/Weakness) in Unite, as opposed to the 2 attack 1 endurance build (Focus/Claw/Weakness, etc.) that most Zeraora usually use.
- Page 24-25: Ruki is fictional, but Zephyr being endlessly beaten by good Lucarios in S2 is real! (S2 was Lucario meta. I created Ruki based on that experience.)
- Page 25: I made a whole comic about Zephyr’s backstory with his mentor Thundersnow
- Page 42: Google image search ‘sleeping leopard’ for cuteness!
- Page 46: Zephyr was a Fluffy Tail Zeraora till the back end of Season 5, when I switched over to X-Attack.
- Page 74: My actual first Master Rank battle went this way.
- Page 84: A whole comic (game log) about what I did in Season 4, if you want to read about it in detail. It’s my most traumatic season to date and I actually considered leaving Unite back then. Glad I didn’t, though!
- Entry 11: Everything I did and said with Leo actually happened.
- Season 4 happened 1 year ago when I was still a total beginner. I wrote about meta and stuff here to make it easier to understand for the readers. But back then, I didn’t even know what meta is and that Zephyr’s weak to S4’s All-Rounder meta. So it felt as though I was losing for no reason and I didn’t know what to fix. Walking in the dark, it was probably twice as scary for me than how I portrayed it in the comic.
- All Zeraora Trainers mentioned in the comic are real, existing players.

Aww, how nice! My Zephyr says hi to yours 😀
I have a question. When and how did Ruka learn what happened to his brother? I’m going based off the assumption that Ruki didn’t sit down and explain that he got captured to Ruka when he first came home after taking down the organization, especially if it was recent and still hurt to talk about. In another comic set in the current time (when they were both evolved) it said Ruki wouldn’t talk to or visit Ruka because it was too hard, so Ruki probably wouldn’t have told him when they reunited in aeos.
I’m also guessing that even if Ruki had told the rest of the Lucario pack what had happened, they wouldn’t have told Ruka (at least right away) because he was young and already grieving that his once loving brother basically insulted him to his face and left him.
And even if Ruki had told Ruka at some point that he was captured and experimented on, it seems somewhat unlikely that he would have also told about how his best friend basically got killed in front of him (because Ruka was a child still and it seems weird to admit something so emotionally troubling to a person you’re basically giving the silent treatment to). But still by the time he meets Zephry and the team, he seems to have a pretty good understanding of Ruki’s story. So how and when did Ruka learn what really happened to Ruki?
Also sorry if this was confusing, it was kind of hard to explain.
Hi, Livi! Thanks for looking at the details of Ruka and Ruki’s story so closely. I’m so happy! ;u;
I was planning to explain that part better in my upcoming fanfic about Ruki’s past (Currently a bit held back since I’m planning to move houses, but I’ll get to it once I settle down next month).
I’m thinking that the evil organization caught Ruki while he was playing with Ruka, so Ruka saw it happen.
When Ruki got back, Ruka was the first one to run to him to hug him.
Lucario can do telepathy and read others’ Aura (and thoughts).
Since Ruka’s particularly close with Ruki, hugging him and being engulfed in Ruki’s chaotic Aura (since he freshly came out of the event) gave Ruka a vision of what happened without Ruki having to say it.
Although Ruki behaved meanly to Ruka after that, Ruka knows that his brother’s in a dark place and he needs someone to help him.
Their parents need to mind the pack since they’re their pack’s leaders, so Ruka trained until he evolved to bring Ruki back by himself.
Hope that helps for now. I’ll do my best to start the fic quickly so I can present these scenes in a more entertaining manner
I hope your move is going well!
And eep! So exciting. Yes, the lucario brothers are my favorite characters. And that’s interesting, I didn’t know lucario could do that. Also so sad Ruka had to see that.
Can’t wait for the fanfic! Also don’t feel to pressured to get it done. Thanks for the response!
Thanks, Livi ;u;♥
From the Lucario Pokedex description, just in case:
– Ultra Moon: Lucario reads its opponent’s feelings with its aura waves. It finds out things it would rather not know, so it gets stressed out easily.
– Shield: It can tell what people are thinking. Only Trainers who have justice in their hearts can earn this Pokémon’s trust.
– Shining Pearl: By sensing the aura emanating from others, it can read their thoughts and movements.
As for telepathy, Sir Aaron’s Lucario in the Lucario movie can do that and converse with Ash, so I just followed that pattern.
Korrina’s Lucario in the anime doesn’t seem to be able to do that though. So maybe it depends on the Lucario if they can do it or not.
