Chapter 4: Hope at the Bottom of the Abyss

English Summary

Iris Elda may be young, but she’d make sure that she got what she wanted. Among the members of Cassell’s board of directors, she was the one who wanted to get rid of the Black Swan children the most. She pointed out that the great destruction around her was what would happen if even one of the Black Swan kids turned into a dragon. Rhyme felt hurt as he noticed how everyone looked at them with fear and distrust. Luckily, Anjou came to the rescue.

Anjou told Iris that the Black Swan kids were more responsible than what the board of directors think. They had proven it by handling the Seikimatsu situation well without hurting anyone. Knowing that she couldn’t win the argument, Iris decided to leave, but told Anjou that he’d regret letting the children live.

After everything settled down, everyone returned to their dorm for a nice weekend. Seikimatsu was allowed to live in the special dorm with the other Black Swan kids since she seemed calmer around them. They named her ‘Homura’ since she wore red and helped her get accustomed to her new surroundings.

Meanwhile, Rhyme felt anxious as everyone around them seemed to distrust them for their unstable bloodlines and overwhelming power, especially Iris. Ren explained that Anjou said that Iris’ father once turned into a monster due to his unstable bloodline and it traumatized her. She inherited his job as a member of Cassell’s board of directors afterwards and hated the Black Swan kids for bearing a resemblance to her father. Rhyme was upset about it, but Ugetsu and the others convinced him that they’d work together and figure something out.

And then Munico, the girl from Sola’s photos, visited the dorm with gifts to see if everyone was alright. She assured the Black Swan kids that not everyone in the school saw them as dangerous enemies. She and her friends were cheering for them and hoped that they can play together one day. Hee-chan was also very friendly with them. Rhyme was grateful and felt that there was hope in their desperate situation, after all.

In the meantime, Violu was talking to Caesar on the phone. Violu’s health test results showed that he had the most stable bloodline among the orphans, so he had struck an agreement with Caesar. He was given the task to watch over his siblings and if anyone goes berserk, he had to do what was necessary.

Turning off the phone, Violu looked up to see the ghost of the dorm, who was actually Lu Mingze. Violu and Lu Mingze, both being demons, knew each other’s true identity. Lu Mingze was annoyed that the kids had moved in to his secret hangout. He also found it amusing that Violu, a great demon, would worry over human children. He left after his conversation with Violu.

Once everyone was asleep, a mysterious figure stood near the special dorm, watching it with defeated bodyguards on the ground. The figure cryptically said that the Black Swan kids would soon be released from their suffering, before opening a Nibelungen portal and summoning a horde of dragons to attack the dorm.
