Pokémon Unite fan comic / Zeraora comic. I’ve been wanting to make a backstory comic for my Unite Zeraora Zephyr forever because he’s my main Pokémon! Eric wanted to know more about my Shiny Zeraora Thundersnow too, so I thought that this’ll be a good chance. Hope you enjoy!

Synopsis
The white Zeraora Thundersnow is the powerful protector of Mt. Frost and Hiverville. He spends his days patroling the mountain and protecting the weak by himself until one day, another Zeraora is born on the mountain.
Artist's Notes
I did it! I finished making this comic! It ended up being double the original plan, so I was a little worried if it’ll drag or get stuck in the middle, but luckily, things went smoothly. Thanks for all the support and for reading, readers!
The story flow went mostly as planned, but I got new ideas as I was writing (such as the last boss Zeraora actually being alive), so I had to improvise. Otherwise, I really let myself go wild and draw all the scenes I imagined with Snow and Zephyr since I made them. Both of those combined caused the themes and story structure to look a bit messy and not put together well, but I’m glad that it’s not to an incoherent level. (If I’m supposed to rewrite, I’ll probably choose one main theme and structure the story and dialogues around it more!)
Other than that, I’m just happy I got to write and finish this since I love my Zeraoras and wanted to make something awesome for them. Thanks for joining me on this adventure!
Trivia
- I originally planned to title this comic ‘Kitten’, but felt that it’s just too cute for a Zeraora comic, so I went with our current title.
‘Twin Thunders’ is originally meant to refer to Kitten (Zephyr) and Thundersnow as the two guardians of Mount Frost, but I suddenly got the idea of making the last boss Zeraora Kitten’s twin in the middle (just so we can avoid a flat battle scene and make things interesting), so it can refer to them, too! - ‘Hiverville’ means ‘Winter Town’ in French. (Kalos is based on France.)
- The mountain doesn’t have a name in Pokémon XY, but since the mountain’s cave is called the ‘Frost Cavern’, I just named it Mount Frost.
- I actually wanted to base the area on Mont Blanc and Chamonix, but since the Kalos map doesn’t have a snowy mountain in the southeast…
- Picked Kalos so Ruki has a good reason to run into Zephyr later on, since he’s looking for a Lucarionite. Zephyr doesn’t have the scar on his stomach in this comic since he hasn’t met Ruki yet.
- I used to bring Fluffy Tail to my Unite Battles all the time with Zephyr, so he gets a Skitty friend here as an Easter Egg.
- Page 5-6: The scene of Zephyr’s birth is based on the official Zeraora manga (a spin-off story for the movie ‘The Power of Us’). Yes, they’re born fully formed, so unfortunately, we don’t have kittens~
- Page 8: A lot of fantasy RPGs start this way with your main character waking up, so it’s a reference to that.
- Page 20: Info about Zeraora not generating their own electricity from the official site.
- Page 23: Getting hurt if you try to absorb more electricity than you can manage is NOT an official setting. I just made up it as an explanation for our Unite Zeraora getting hurt by Electric-type moves despite having Volt Absorb.
- Page 24: The ring around the mountaintop is based on the plasma zone that forms after Zeraora uses Plasma Gale in Unite (screenshot below).
- Page 25: Conflicted between Plasma Gale or Plasma Fists, but since Zephyr’s a Unite Zeraora, let’s go with Plasma Gale!
- Page 38-39: When the Fula City Zeraora was distributed in Sun/Moon and Sword/Shield, he came with a balloon as his held item, so it’s a tribute to that.
- Page 46: A Houndoom appeared as one of the poachers’ Pokémon in the Zeraora movie, so it’s a reference to that. (And when I drew this, I realized for the first time that Houndooms don’t have visible ears!!)
- Page 64: Officer Jenny and Nurse Joy’s designs are from Pokémon XY’s anime.
- Page 81-92: The corners of all the panels in this comic are rounded, but turn sharp in these pages because it’s the last boss and I want it to look cool!
- The space between panels are grey from the start of the comic, but turns light blue from page 93 after Kitten’s twin returns to his original form and the sky clears.
- After this story, Zephyr travels Kalos to train by himself for a few years, before eventually running into Ruki and heading to Aeos Island to join Rhyme’s Unite team.
