English Summary
Hearing the news that Ninurta had successfully defeated the tyrannical Anzu, the gods praised him as their hero. Enki, glad that Ninurta had won, decided to go and check up on him.
Arriving at the cliff where Ninurta fought Anzu, Enki found Ninurta. Seeing that Ninurta had successfully retrieved the Tablet of Destinies, Enki happily congratulated him. However, much to Enki’s disbelief, Ninurta said that he wouldn’t be returning the Tablet.
Enki was shocked. Ninurta, as the son and heir of Enlil, activated the Tablet’s full power and made himself the supreme god. He was about to use the Tablet to turn everyone into his servants, but Enki decided to stop him immediately.
Summoning his giant turtle, Enki commanded it to capture Ninurta. The turtle attacked and trapped Ninurta in a great hole. Enki told Ninurta to wake up, and that he was under the control of the Tablet.
But Ninurta retorted, saying that he did it on his own accord. He was the one who managed to retrieve the Tablet when no one else dared to, so he had the right to become the supreme god. With this, everyone would finally acknowledge and praise him.
Ninurta’s words made Enki furious. He asked Ninurta what he had fought for all this time, and if his friendships meant nothing to him. Ninurta had fought to become a good god, not to be a tyrant like Anzu.
Thinking back, Ninurta remembered how his friends and family believed in him and loved him no matter what. He couldn’t repay them this way. Ashamed of his behavior and choices, Ninurta gave up the Tablet and returned to his original form.
Enki and his comrades were glad. They welcomed him home with open arms.
The war with Anzu over and the Tablet of Destinies safely back in Enlil’s possession, the whole world celebrated Ninurta’s victory. A huge festival was being held at Ninurta’s temple in honor of Ninurta, now a high-ranking god.
The atmosphere was cheerful. Adad, Shara and Girra, now freed from their clay statue curse, had come to congratulate Ninurta and celebrate with the others. The priest from the City of Wind, as well as the children Anzu brainwashed were there too, glad to be freed from Anzu’s control.
Enki was happy for Ninurta. He told Ninurta that since he did his best to explain Anzu’s situation and pleaded for mercy, Enlil had decided to just punish Anzu instead of executing him. Anzu was now serving his sentence of 100 years of cleaning jobs and babysitting. Ninurta laughed, somewhat relieved that things ended well.
Afterwards, Ninurta’s parents came to congratulate him. Ninmah was proud of him and gave him a tight hug. Enlil acknowledged him and praised him for the first time. His wish fulfilled, Ninurta was touched.
Even so, Enlil reminded Ninurta that being a high-ranking god wouldn’t be easy, as the position came with responsibilities. Ninurta smiled with confidence, saying that he’d do his best.
Ninurta then parted with his parents. He was off to spend time with his dear wife Gula, freed from Anzu’s curse. With his people, friends and family’s full support, Ninurta went on to be a great and well-respected god.
